Burj Al Arab
Burj Al Arab que significa em português "A Torre Árabe" é provavelmente o mais conhecido landmark do Dubai. Este edifício que ficou conhecido pelo seu design arrojado, e por nele se encontrar instalado o primeiro hotel de 6 estrelas, faz capa de revista em todo o mundo.
O edifício é absolutamente fantástico quer pela arquitectura, pela engenharia, pela decoração de interiores, ou apenas pelo serviço espectacular. Diga-se aliás que este serviço de topo é uma constante de todos os hotéis do Grupo Jumeirah, um grupo local, com hotéis únicos.
No entanto, aquando da sua construção este edifício não este livre de polémica. Visto do mar, ou seja, visto de frente, a estrutura simboliza uma cruz, sendo esta a maior cruz do Mundo. Sendo os Emirados um estado islâmico, corânico, onde impera a sharia, esta cruz foi considerada uma ofensa e várias alternativas foram consideradas para corrigir o edifício. Não houve a fazer o edifício manteve a sua traça original. No Dubai não há à venda um único postal de frente do Burj porque fotografias frontais estão censuradas.
Translated to english Burj Al Arab means "The Arab Tower". This building is the most famous landmark of Dubai and host of one of the first 6 star hotels in the world.The building is absolutely fantastic for its architecture, its design, its interiors decoration and for the excellent service. Honour must be made that all the hotels of the Jumeirah Group, a local hotel group, has fantastic services and facilities. The Burj belongs to that group.However, when the building was ready it was not without controvery. Seen from the sea, ie, having a frontal view, the building has the shape of christian cross, making of it the biggest cross in the world. Since the Emirates is a muslim country, using the coranic law where the sharia applies, a vivid discussion was held to change the structure of the building. Nevertheless, nothing was possible to do and it remained as such. Unfortunately, a censorship forbids the print of any postcards having a frontal view of the building.

Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi é o maior, o mais rico e o mais importante emirado dos Emirados Árabes Unidos. A cidade de Abu Dhabi está impecavelmente organizada, limpa, com construções sóbrias e equilibradas. Francamente gostei imenso desta cidade. Sem os excessos do Dubai, sem a construção constante, a azáfama asfixiante ou o trânsito paralisante, Abu Dhabi pareceu-me um excelente sítio para se viver.
História à pouca, mas há-de haver mais. À medida que a cidade tenta atrair turistas vai construindo edifícios que fazem história. Refiro-me em concreto ao Emirates Palace um hotel absolutamente fantástico, absolutamente esmagador. A escala é enorme, impressiona e não deixa ninguém indiferente. O Palácio da Ajuda ao pé do Emirates Palace parece a ala dos criados. O Emirates Palace é um hotel de 6 estrelas
Outro edifício absolutamente monstro é a nova mesquita (sem palavras para a descrever, a escala é enorme), cuja construção está interrompida a “pedido” da Arábia Saudita. Pelo que parece os sauditas não viram com bons olhos a construção de uma mesquita com aquela dimensão porque isso iria pôr em causa as mesquitas de Meca e Medina.
Ainda em Abu Dhabi aproveitámos, a Maria, o Manuel e eu, para ver o Camel Parade, uma exposição sobre pérolas no Centro Cultural. Foi também aqui que pela primeira vez vi casas-de-banho para homens, mulheres e raparigas!
Abu Dhabi is the biggest, most important and richest of the Emirates in the United Arab Emirates. The city of Abu Dhabi is very well organized, clean, with sober and balanced constructions. Quite honestly, I enjoyed the city a lot. Without the excesses of Dubai, without the frantic construction, or the paralyzing traffic, Abu Dhabi seemed to me like a fantastic place to live.
Abu Dhabi like many other places in the Gulf is making history. Its landmark is definitely the Emirates Palace, a 6 star hotel whose scale is beyond any photo can capture. The building is absolutely awesome, breathtaking. I’d never seen anything like that.
Likewise a new monster mosque is being built but as it seems Saudia put huge pressures to halt the construction. As a result the construction is now on-hold. It seems that the construction of such a huge and magnificent mosque could in some way compromise the mosques in Mecca and Medina.
Also in Abu Dhabi Manuel, Maria and I enjoyed the Camel Parade, a pearls exhibition in the Cultural Center. It was also here that for the first time I saw toilets for men, women and girls!
Liwa Oasis
O oásis de Liwa dista de carro a três hora da cidade do Dubai. Localizado a Oeste faz fronteira com o Reino da Arábia Saudita e, nesta zona, as fronteiras entre os dois países ainda não estão demarcadas.
O caminho para lá chegar é óptimo porque sendo a estrutura rodoviária moderna permite uma confortável viagem. Os mais de 300km são igualmente agradáveis porque o sistema gota-a-gota está amplamento difundido e, como tal, todo o percurso à beira da estrada está pintado de verde, ao passo que a pouco mais do que 10m depois começa o deserto.
Foi deste oásis que sairam as famílias que governam o Dubai e Abu Dhabi. É também neste oásis onde encontramos a residência do Xeique Zaied, pai fundador do país.
The Liwa Oasis is no more than a three hour drive from Dubai. Located in the West part of the country it borders with Saudia Arabia, in an area known for its undemarcated borders. The road is great and green. The modern irrigation techniques make it possible for hundreds and hundreds of kilometers of a green pavement along the road, while no more than a few meters away the deep desert starts.Both the ruling families of Abu Dhabi and Dubai come from this Oasis, and there you can see the summer residence of Sheikh Zayed, father and former ruler of UAE.
Ski Dubai
Depois de tanto tempo sem actualizar o blogue chegou finalmente a hora. As fotografias que vêem abaixo são daquela que é uma das maiores atracções turísticas do Dubai, refiro-me ao Ski Dubai. Basicamente trata-se de um espaço enorme com uma pista de ski, tobogans, meios mecânicos, pinheiros artificiais etc onde se tem a impressão de estar no meio de uma qualquer estância.
O ambiente é super divertido e animado. É aqui que estou a aprender a fazer ski. Igualmente interessante é observar os locais nas suas togas e abaias a divertirem-se como se nada fosse.
After such a long time without updating my blog a few photos of one of the main tourist attractions of Dubai; Ski Dubai. The photos below depict what is one of the main attractions of this emirate. Basically, it consists of a huge space with a slope, tobogans, artificial pinetrees and all it takes to recreated a close-to-real atmosphere; and trust me.... it does feel like you are in the middle of some resort.The place is great fun and it's here that I'm learning how to sky. Interesting to see is the locals dressed up in their thobes and abbayas.
