Palácio de Inverno/Winter Palace
Um dos edifícios que mais me marcou em São Petersburgo foi sem qualquer dúvida o Palácio de Inverno. O conjunto é absolutamente fabuloso. O palácio é grandioso, e bonito, mas a escala da praça que o enquadra é algo de estonteante. Nas fotos consegue-se ter uma ideia da imensidão que é este conjunto.
É no Palácio de Inverno (e alguns acrescentos posteriores soviéticos) que funciona o Hermitage, sem dúvida um dos melhores museus do Mundo e com um acervo incalculável (a propósito recomenda-se uma visita ao Palácio Real da Ajuda onde está patente uma exposição do Hermitage). Interessante foi ler a descrição dos objectos onde invariavelmente se lia patetices do tipo "Emprestado da colecção dos Condes Suvlov", ou "Cedido pelo Mosteiro de ..." Enfim... o comunismo não foi apenas o maior embuste da história do século XX, mas também o maior ladrão.
One of the buildings the most touched me in Saint Petersburg was without question the Winter Palace. The building is fabulous and awesome, but the full set is something breathtaking. The square and the surrounding buildings are of such a fantastic scale, that I'm not sure the photos are able to give even a small idea of it.It's in the Winter Palace that is hosted the Hermitage, for sure one of the best museums in the World, with a priceless collection (by the way, I recommend a visit to Palácio Real da Ajuda in Lisboa where the Hermitage is currently holding the biggest ever exhibition abroad - until Feb). Interesting to read is the label of the objects. The descriptions many times go like this "On loan from the collection of Counts Suslov", or "Borrowed from Monastery X..." I guess that communism was not just the biggest fraud of the XX Century, but also the greatest thief.
Lausanne
A noite de sábado foi passada em Lausanne. Sinceramente já ninguém tinha pachorra para mais um fim-de-semana passado em Genebra em absoluto tédio. Foi assim que a Jaime, o David e eu decidímos ir até Lausanne. Foi uma decisão excelente. Começámos e terminámos a noite numa discoteca que se chame M.A.D. enorme, com quatro pisos, e com um ambiente super divertido. O domingo foi passado a tentar recuperar energias.
Last Saturday night we were in Lausanne. Simply put no one was in the mood to put up with another boring, extremelly boring, week-end in Geneva (yes, Geneva is boring beyond description - Just heard this one recently from David MCC). Jaime, David and I started and ended the night in M.A.D. a fabulous, 4 floor disco with an outstanding atmosphere. On Sunday we tried to recharge batteries.
Peterhof
Peterhof é um lindíssimo conjunto de palácios e jardins mando erguer pelo Czar Pedro, o Grande. Quem visita São Petersburgo tem necessariamente que visitar o Peterhof.
O que mais impressiona é o conjunto de fontes que ornamenta a entrada do Palácio, bem como o canal do mar que vai desde o golfo da Finlândia até à entrada do edifício principal.
Este edifício foi violentamente destruído durante a segunda Grande Guerra, mas encontra-se hoje impecavelmente restaurado.
The Peterhof is an amazing set of palaces and gardens built by the Tzar Peter, the Great. If you visit Saint Petersburg you definitely have to come here.The most impressive is the fountain set that ornates the entrance of the Palace, as well as the sea channel going from the golf of Finland to the entrance of the main building.Even though the Peterhof was brutally destroyed during WWII, it has been restored and is today found in an impecable condition.
Sangue derramado/Spilled blood
Abaixo podem ver as fotografias da lindíssima igreja de Cristo o Salvador do Sangue Derramado que é uma das principais igrejas ortodoxas de São Petersburgo, e igualmente uma das mais visitadas e mais marcantes da cidade.
Esta igreja tem vários nomes como Catedral da Resurreição de Cristo, que embora seja o seu nome oficial, é o menos utilizado. O nome popular deve-se ao facto que foi neste local que o avó do último Czar, Alexandre II da Rússia, foi covardemente assassinado por terroristas bolcheviques.
Durante a longa noite do comunismo russo esta igreja foi desconsagrada e encerrada ao culto pela ditadura do proletariado (os mesmos que tinham acabado de comprar os 20 Rolls-Royce Silver Phantom), e transformada, entre outras coisas num armazém! Imagine-se a estupidez!
Felizmente, a Igreja foi restaurada, e reaberta ao público sendo hoje um dos lugares mais visitados em São Petersburgo.
Below you can see the photos of the lovely Church of Christ the Saviour of the Spilled Blood, which is one of the main orthodox churches of Saint Petersburg, and equally one of the most visited and characteristic.Even though Cathedral of the Ressurection of Christ is its official name, its popular name is more used being the reason the fact tha the grandfather of the last Tzar, Alexander II of Russia, was shot by the bolsheviks.During the communism era this church become, among other things, a warehouse. Indeed human stupidity knows no limits!Fortunately, the church has been renovated and is now one of the most visited places in the whole Saint Petersburg.
Religião e Ateísmo / Religion and Atheism
A igreja que podem ver acima é a Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Kazan. Esta é a Igreja Matriz de São Petersburgo, e Nossa Senhora de Kazan é a imagem russa que mais seguidores tem.
Em 1932 esta igreja foi transformada em Museu do Ateísmo. Esta aberração, expectável e típica, do regime comunista-bolchevique que ensombrou a Rússia durante o período soviético, teve o seu termino em 1996 quando voltou a ser aberta à celebração da Santa Missa.
Desse museu contra-natura (sim porque a história do Homem sempre se fez com base no seu relacionamento com Deus) nada resta. Hoje, muito perto deste local existe um novo museu: O Museu das Religiões.
O comunismo, essa filosofia que emana da mente simples dos homens, e por isso temporal, vê o seu prazo de validade esgotar-se a todo e cada instante. Chegará o dia em que o comunismo, e os comunistas, serão lembrados da mesma forma que os nacional-socialistas, os inquisidores, entre outros, que muito mal fizeram e nenhumas saudades deixaram.
Above you can see the Church of Our Lady of Kazan. This is the main church of Saint Petersburg and Our Lady of Kazan is probably the dearest image of the Russian Orthodox Church.In 1932 the Bolsheviks established in this church the Museum of Atheism, a complete non-sense, since the history of Mankind cannot be dissociated from God. In 1996 this church was returned to its original function, and there I attended mass.
Today, the Museum of Atheism is to be found nowhere, expect in some books or publications from the Soviet time. This museum has completely disappeared, but not far away Saint Petersburg witnessed the raise of a new museum: The Museum of Religions.
