Foi nesta agradável cidade do sul da França onde começou as nossas férias da Páscoa. Apesar da longa viagem o grupo manteve sempre elevados níveis de energia. Efectivamente, Nice é uma bonita cidade que vale a pena visitar.
It was in this pleasent city of southern France that our Easter holidays started. Despite the long journey the group was able to maintain high levels of energy. Really, Nice is a place worthwhile a visit.

Páscoa 2008/Easter 2008 - Avignon
Avignon não é Roma e França não é Itália. O Papa fez muito bem em não sair de Roma.
Avignon é uma pequena vila, bucólica, no sul de França. Há muito tempo atrás quis ser muito, ou outros quiseram que ela fosse aquilo que nunca poderia ser, e hoje é apenas uma excentricidade da história, uma curiosidade turística.
A vila está murada e no seu centro encontra-se o Castelo dos Papas. Do original resta apenas as paredes exteriores, eventualmente um fresco ou outro e pouco mais. Como museu não tem interesse, como peça de construção arquitetónica tem algum. Há uma razão. Depois da revolução jacobina este edíficio, que outrora deve ter sido monumental, foi transformado num quartel. A determinada altura houve um incêndio e hoje pouco sobra da memória desses tempos.
Avignon is not Rome and France is not Italy. The Pope was very wise to stay in Rome.Avigon is a small, countryside-like town, in southern France. A long time ago it had the pretension to be what it could never be, or maybe others did for it, but today Avigon is an historical excentriciy, a touristic curiosity.The town is in-walls and at its center you can find the Castle of the Popes. From the original you can still find the outside walls, eventually a couple of frescoes and that's pretty much it. As a museum it's totally uninteresting, and from an architecture view point there are one or two aspects worth considering. There's a reason. After the jacobine revolution this building, which in the past must have been grand, become an army barracks. At some point there was a fire and today much of the memory of those distant times is gone.

Páscoa 2008/Easter 2008 - Monte Carlo (Mónaco)
A última vez que estive em Monte Carlo tinha uns treze ou quatorze anos e a verdade é que já não me lembrava muito bem do lugar. Contudo, desta visita fiquei com uma ideia diferente. Para descrever Monte Carlo oscilo entre defini-lo como uma "aldeia dos macacos", ou uma "feira das vaidades". Provavelmente será muito de ambos. Valeu o grupo de amigos que tornou as férias num verdadeiro triunfo :)
I hadn't been to Monte Carlo since I was 13 or 14yo and to be honest I didn't have a clear ideia of the place anymore. However, this time all I can remember is of a "Monkey village" running a "Vanity show". Fortunately, the amazing group of friends turned this holidays into a triumph :)

De tudo o que vimos na Provença Gordes foi de longe o que mais gostei. Este povoado medieval, perdido no alto de uma montanha com vista para um vale, feito de pedra é bonito, harmonioso, e impecavelmente bem tratado. Tem um castelo do século XI e toda a aldeia foi construída à sua volta.
From all the places we visited in the Provence Gordes was the one I enjoyed the most by far. This small dwelling from middle ages, built on the peak of a mountain with an amazing view over a blue valley, made of stone is beautiful, has harmony and is amazingly well-maintained. The castle dates back to century XI and is located at the heart of the settlement.

Lyon
Já nem me lembro quando foi, mas talvez tenha sido em Fevereiro que fui passar um fim-de-semana a Lyon. Esta cidade é a segunda ou terceira maior cidade de França e dista de Genebra a pouco mais de 1h30 de comboio.
A cidade fui fundada há dois mil anos atrás pelos romanos (penso que por Júlio César, mas não tenho a certeza) e tem um acervo desta época bastante interessante. Igualmente interessante de visitar é o sítio arqueológico e o museu.
Depois tem algumas curiosidades como o bairro renascentista, uma ou outra igreja e por aí ficamos. O que vale a pena é os restaurantes.
I can't even quite remember when it was, but I guess it was in February that I went to Lyon for a week-end. Lyon is the second or third biggest city in France and is located about 1h30m away from Geneva by train.The city was founded by the Romans about 2000 years ago (I believe by Julius Cesar, but I'm not sure), and it has significant remains from this era. Interesting to visit is the archeological site and the museum.In addition it has other points of interest like the renassance quarter, one or another church and that's about it. Worthwhile is to indulge a mean at one of the many restaurants.
